Pale oak is the classic picture, but dark and black oak, or a black steel frame, are just as Nordic if the line is calm.
What makes a dining table Scandinavian?
A plain shape where the material is the decoration. Solid oak you can see the grain of. Legs placed so chairs slide under and nobody straddles a leg. And a build that tolerates children, homework and dinner parties without wobbling.
Which of our tables is the most Scandinavian?
All four stand 76 cm high with a 3 cm top, which leaves 73 cm under the top for knees and armrests.
| Table | Build | Sizes | Reads as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ann | Solid oak top and legs | 160, 240, 280 cm | Classic Nordic timber |
| Melker | Oak top on steel frame | 160, 240, 280 cm | Oak with a lighter base |
| Diana | Oak or sintered stone on steel | 160, 240, 280 cm | Modern Nordic |
| Luna | Round oak top, crossed steel legs | ø110, ø140 cm | Soft, for small rooms |
Is it made in Scandinavia?
Ours are. The tables are built in our workshop in Sweden and carry a 10-year warranty.
Scandinavian style made elsewhere can be fine. Check the warranty, whether the top is solid or a veneer over board, and where the frame is welded or joined.
Light oak, dark oak or black oak?
Light oak is brightest and shows crumbs least. Dark oak is warmer at night under lamps. Black oak is graphic and pairs with black steel chairs. The grain shows through all three.
Match the chairs or contrast them on purpose. Oak chairs in the same finish read as a set. Black steel chairs on light oak are a classic Scandinavian contrast.
Round or long?
Round Luna in a small or square room: ø110 cm seats four, ø140 cm seats six. Long Ann, Melker or Diana in a dining room or open plan: 160 cm seats four, 240 cm six, 280 cm eight.
We do not make an extending table. Buy the length you use most weeks, not the one for Christmas.
