Vera is a floor taper holder: a powder-coated steel stem with a crown at the top that holds the candle, standing on a solid Caesarstone base. The stone carries the weight, so the stem can be as thin as a line. If you want a pillar candle in glass instead, see the hurricane candle holder guide.
What is a taper candle holder?
A holder that grips a slim dinner candle (a taper) at its base and keeps it upright. The flame is open, with no glass around it.
Which height?
The flame stands the length of the candle above the crown, so the light sits higher than the holder. All three heights share the same base, so a group of two or three takes the same floor space per holder. The set of two is the Large and the Small, 37.4 and 29.5 in.
| Vera | Height | Base | Works for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 29.5 in | 20 x 7.9 in | Beside a dining table, the flame just above the tabletop |
| Medium | 33.5 in | 20 x 7.9 in | The middle step of a group |
| Large | 37.4 in | 20 x 7.9 in | A hall or a fireplace corner, the tall end of a pair |
Which candle fits a taper holder?
A slim dinner candle, standing straight in the crown. Not a pillar candle: it has nothing to grip.
Choose straight, unscented dinner candles that stand upright without leaning. Push the candle in until it stands firm. A candle that leans burns down one side and drips. Candles are not included. For pillars, LED and the glass holders, see which candle for which holder.
Where can an open flame stand?
Where the air is still and nothing hangs near it: a hallway, a fireplace corner, beside the dinner table, the end of a sideboard.
Not under a shelf, not beside curtains, not in a doorway where people brush past, not by a window you open. A draught makes an open flame flicker, smoke and drip. If the place you have in mind fails one of those tests, a glass holder like Thomas is the better answer. The floor candle holder guide compares the two.
How to keep an open flame safe
Never leave it burning unattended, and put it out before you go to bed or leave the room.
Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Leave clear space above the flame: nothing hanging over it, nothing on a shelf above. Check the candle stands straight before you light it.
The heavy stone base makes Vera hard to tip on a level floor. On a deep rug, check the base sits flat. Put the candle out before it burns down to the crown.
Taper holder or glass holder?
Taper, like Vera, for the look: a slim line and a bare flame, in a quiet place. Glass, like Thomas or Tom, for the living room and anywhere people pass or air moves. The glass shields the flame and catches the drips.
Many homes have both: Thomas beside the sofa, Vera in the hall. The guide to candle holder types sorts the rest.
Colors and stone
The steel stem is black or beige, never white. The base is Caesarstone engineered quartz in Turbin Gray or Moorland Fog. It is not marble. Both surfaces wipe clean with a damp cloth.
The stem is welded and powder-coated in our own factory in Sweden, and Vera has a 10-year warranty.
