Tom is a powder-coated steel frame with a clear glass cylinder, made in Sweden.
What is a hurricane candle holder?
A candle holder with a glass cylinder around the flame. The name comes from lamps built to stay lit in wind. Today it means calm light that does not flicker or drip on the table.
Which size?
On a dining table, keep the light below eye level so people can see each other. The 6.7 in Tom does that.
| Tom | Height | Width | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 6.7 in | 4.1 in | Dining table, below eye level |
| Medium | 8 in | 4.1 in | Sideboard, windowsill |
| Large | 9.4 in | 4.1 in | Coffee table, floor group |
Which candle?
A pillar candle that leaves at least a finger of space to the glass all round. A block candle works too. Keep the flame below the rim.
Unscented candles at the table. Trim the wick to about 5 mm so it does not soot the glass.
How to group them
Odd numbers look natural: three in stepped heights on a coffee table or a tray. The set of three gives you 6.7, 8 and 9.4 in.
Pair Tom with Thomas floor candle holders in the same frame color for one family of light across a room.
Indoors and out
The glass makes Tom good on a covered terrace or a balcony table on a still evening. Bring it in for rain: the steel is powder-coated, but standing water and frost are hard on any finish.
Never leave a burning candle unattended, even in glass.
Replacement glass: can I buy a spare?
Yes. The clear glass cylinder lifts out of the frame and is sold separately as a spare part, for Tom and for our Thomas floor candle holder. A broken glass never means a new holder.
The spare glass for Thomas is 7.9 in tall and the spare for Tom 4 in, both clear and sold singly; Tom's glass sits on the steel rim of the frame, so the candle stands inside both. Which candle fits each holder is in our candle guide. When you order a spare, give the model and the size, and contact us if you are not sure which you have.
