Color is secondary. Black steel and dark stone are as Nordic as pale oak if the shape is quiet.
What makes a coffee table Scandinavian?
Four things. A low, calm line that does not block the sofa. No ornament: the shape is the decoration. Materials you can name, such as steel, oak and stone, not a printed foil. And a build made to be used daily for years.
Modern or Scandinavian coffee table?
Modern is the wider word: any current design with clean lines, often in steel, glass or stone, sometimes bold in shape or color. Scandinavian is one strand of it: calm, practical and low, in honest materials, made to last. Every Scandinavian coffee table is modern; not every modern one is Scandinavian.
Anton and Leo sit where the two meet. The welded steel frame and the sintered stone top read modern; the low line and the lack of ornament read Nordic. If you are weighing Scandinavian against mid-century modern, the mid-century vs Scandinavian guide explains the difference.
Is it made in Scandinavia?
Ask, because the word on the listing does not say. Anton and Leo frames are welded and powder-coated in our workshop in Sweden. The stone is Dekton from Cosentino.
A Scandinavian-style table made elsewhere can be perfectly good. Just know which one you are buying and what the warranty says.
Round or rectangular?
Both are Nordic. Round Leo (ø70, ø80, ø37.4 in) softens a room full of straight sofas and is easier to walk around. Rectangular Anton (up to 100 x 29.5 in) gives more surface in front of a long three-seater.
In a small room, round wins. In front of a corner sofa, rectangle wins.
Oak or stone?
Pale oak is the classic Scandinavian picture. Sintered stone is the practical one: it takes heat and water without a coaster. Leo offers both on Design Your Own. Anton is stone.
If the floor is already light oak, a stone top stops the room becoming one shade of wood.
How does it last?
Welded steel does not loosen at the joints the way bolted legs can. Powder coat resists scuffs. Sintered stone does not need sealing. That is why we give 10 years on the frame and build.
A Scandinavian table that wobbles after two years was a look, not a build.
