Oak Dining Table: Solid Oak, Three Finishes

Short answer

Ann
solid oak, top and legs
Melker / Diana
oak top, steel frame
Three finishes
oak, dark oak, black oak

Ann is solid oak, top and legs. Diana and Melker put an oak top on a steel frame. Finishes: oak, dark oak, black oak. Not veneer.

Dining Table Ann in solid oak, full table seen against a plain studio background

Oak dining table is a material search, and a lot of what it lands on is a thin oak face over chipboard. We do not do that. Ann is oak through the top and the legs. Diana and Melker are oak tops on welded steel. Luna is a round oak top on crossed steel. This guide is which construction, which finish, and how the top lives with plates. Sintered stone is the other Diana top, and it is not oak. Made in Sweden.

Solid oak or oak on steel?

Ann if you want timber all the way down. Melker or Diana if you want a slimmer steel frame under the same oak colors.

Ann's legs sit in from the edge so chairs slide under. Steel frames read lighter in a small room. The top you eat on is oak in all three wood lines.

Custom width exists on Ann and Diana. Ann has no Design Your Own color matrix; Melker and Diana do on the frame.

Three finishes

Oak, dark oak, black oak. Same family as the oak chairs and stools.

They are the same timber, different stain and lacquer. Grain still shows on dark and black. Pick from samples in the room, not from a screen. Matching Karin or Erik in the same finish is a real set; mixing dark oak legs with a black oak table is a choice, not a mistake.

Oak versus stone

Oak if you want warmth and will use mats for red wine. Stone (Dekton on indoor Diana) if the table is a desk at breakfast and a dining table at night.

Stone is not marble. Oak is not a film. Do not buy oak expecting a cutting-board top; it is lacquered furniture.

How do you clean a wood dining table?

With a damp cloth and a drop of mild soap, then a dry cloth. That is all our lacquered oak needs, every day.

Wipe along the grain and dry the top straight after, so no water stands on it. Sticky marks come off with the same lukewarm water and mild soap. Skip silicone polish, which leaves a gray film, and skip abrasive pads, bleach and solvents. Keep the table out of strong direct sun and away from radiators. Hot pans go on a trivet.

How do you get water rings out of a wood table?

Prevent them first: a coaster under glasses, a mat under anything wet and a cloth for standing water. On a lacquered top a ring is a mark in the finish, so treat the finish gently.

A pale or white ring usually sits in the lacquer. Wipe the area dry and leave it at room temperature; a light ring often fades as the moisture leaves. Do not try an iron, a hair dryer, toothpaste or wire wool: those home remedies dull or scratch the lacquer and turn a small mark into a big one. A dark ring means water has reached the wood. That is a refinish, not a kitchen job: send a photo to our customer service and we will advise. The 10-year warranty covers the piece we made, used as a dining table.

Should you oil an oak dining table?

Not ours. The oak is sealed with a natural matte lacquer, so oil cannot reach the wood: it just sits on top as a film. No oil and no wax, ever.

Oil is for oiled furniture. A raw or oil-finished table needs a fresh coat now and then; a lacquered one does not. Check which finish you have before you buy a tin. If a deep mark goes through our lacquer, the answer is a refinish of the lacquer, not oil.

Frequently asked questions

Are your dining tables solid oak?

Ann is, top and legs. Melker, Diana wood, and Luna use solid oak tops on steel frames.

Is it veneer?

No. The oak tops are solid. We do not sell an oak-print top.

Oak or dark oak?

Same timber. Dark and black are stained, then lacquered. Sample in your light.

How do you get a water ring out of an oak table?

Wipe it dry and leave it at room temperature; a pale ring in the lacquer often fades. No iron, no toothpaste. A dark ring means water has reached the wood: send us a photo.

Should I oil an oak dining table?

Not ours. The oak is lacquered, so oil just sits on top. Clean with a barely damp cloth. Deep marks through the lacquer need a refinish, not oil.

How do I clean an oak dining table?

Barely damp cloth, then dry. No standing water.
