In the mountain village of Maranza in South Tyrol, Milla Montis translates generations of hospitality, Alpine building culture and the surrounding Dolomites into a distinctly contemporary retreat. Designed by Peter Pichler Architecture, the hotel is shaped by local materials, regional memory and a belief shared by its owners, Roland and Franziska, that what is new does not need to abandon what came before.

At Villa K, architects Olivia Johansson and Jerker Edfast of Krook & Tjäder designed a home around one concept, outside meets inside, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior. Every sightline is drawn toward the water, while glass, stone, oak and furniture allow the architecture to continue beyond its walls.

At the southern tip of Sweden, on the Falsterbo peninsula, pine forest thins into sand and the light carries the sea in every direction. This is Höllviken. Here, Linda and Axel have built a black timber villa drawn by architect Klas Sjöstrand, a house designed not around how it should look, but around how a family actually lives.

Far up in the north of Sweden, where the light stretches long across the summers and the winters fall quiet and dark, Dennis Bejedal built something he had carried with him for years.

In the historic Frederiksstaden district in central Copenhagen, Ditte and Rune's 358 square-metre apartment dates back to 1907 balances original architecture with a quieter Scandinavian restraint. 

At the far edge of Stockholm archipelago, where pine trees meet granite and the Baltic Sea opens out in layers of blue, grey, and mist, lies Pine Edge Villa.
