Why we use powder coating, not paint or lacquer

Powder coating offers clear advantages, environmental, practical, and aesthetic, over conventional liquid paints and lacquers:

  • It’s solvent-free, producing virtually zero volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions during application. That makes the process cleaner and safer for workers.
  • Overspray can be reclaimed and reused, reducing material waste.
  • The coating is extremely durable: highly resistant to chipping, scratching, corrosion, and fading, much more so than typical liquid coatings.
  • Because it cures cleanly, exhaust air from the spray booths can be returned to the plant, reducing outside emissions.
  • Some studies show that eco-friendly powder coatings reduce CO₂ emissions by 10–15 % compared to traditional industrial coating systems.

This means less rework, fewer touchups, and fewer replacements, which in turn lowers the environmental burden over the long run.

Steel’s carbon cost

Paid once, earned back over time

Paid once, earned back over time

Forging and producing steel is energy intensive and carries a high initial carbon cost. But this is where durability makes the difference. Because our frames are built to last decades, the relative carbon footprint per year of service becomes small compared to cheaper alternatives that need replacing every few years.

A longer service life spreads that initial environmental cost across many more years of use, reducing the per-year impact. In comparison, furniture built from less durable materials may repeatedly incur new carbon costs every replacement cycle. We see powder-coated steel, done correctly, as a long-term investment: heavy upfront, but efficient over time.
