Bedside Tables Set of 2: Matching Pair or Mixed Sides

Short answer

250 cm
of wall for two Iris and a 160 cm bed
5 cm
gap between bed and each table
40 cm
width of one Iris

Two matching bedside tables make a bed look calm and symmetrical. Two Iris beside a 160 cm bed need about 250 cm of wall. Mixing works when the finishes relate, and when the two sleepers want different things: a drawer on one side, a clear floor on the other.

Most double beds get two bedside tables, and the question is whether they should be the same. A matched pair is the safe, hotel-like answer. A mixed pair is often the better one, because the two sides of a bed rarely have the same needs. This guide is how much wall a pair takes, when to match and when to mix, and how to hang two floating tables at the same height.

Should bedside tables be a matching pair?

If the room is calm and symmetrical, yes: a matching pair frames the bed and makes the bedroom read tidy before anything else is in place.

Matching is also the simple answer when the bed is centred on a wall with the same space on both sides. Two Iris, the same frame and the same top, is that look: 64 cm high, 40 cm wide and 35 cm deep, each with a drawer.

How much wall do two bedside tables need?

The bed width, plus the width of both tables, plus a small gap on each side so the duvet clears the table.

The table allows 5 cm between the bed and each table. If the wall is shorter than the figure for Iris, two Lisa at 30 cm wide or one Iris and one Lisa usually solves it.

When should you mix two different bedside tables?

When the two sides want different things. One sleeper wants a drawer for glasses and chargers; the other wants the floor clear for a robot vacuum or a narrow walkway.

Iris on one side and Lisa on the other is that split: a drawer on one side, a table on the wall on the other. Keep the tops level with each other, or close, so the bed still reads as one composition.

How do you make a mixed pair look intentional?

Repeat one thing across both sides: the colour, the material or the height.

A black Iris with a black oak Lisa shares a colour. A beige Iris with an oak Affe shares a warm tone. Two lamps that match will also hold a mixed pair together, even when the tables are different shapes.

How do you hang two floating bedside tables level?

Pick the height once, then measure both from the floor, not from the bed frame or the skirting. Floors and frames are rarely as level as they look.

Lisa is screwed to the wall and you choose the mounting height, so set it level with the top of your mattress or up to about 5 cm above. Mark both sides at that height, check with a spirit level, and fix them before the bed goes back against the wall.

Frequently asked questions

Should bedside tables match?

They do not have to. A matching pair looks calm; a mixed pair works when the finishes relate.

Do you sell bedside tables as a set of 2?

Order two of the same table, in the same frame and top, for a matching pair.

How much space do I need for two bedside tables?

The bed width, both tables and about 5 cm on each side. About 250 cm for two Iris beside a 160 cm bed.

Should both bedside tables be the same height?

Close to it. Both tops should sit near the height of the mattress.

Can I put a bedside table on only one side?

Yes. With a bed against one wall, one table on the open side is enough.

Can I use one floating and one standing bedside table?

Yes. Mount the floating one at the height of the standing one's top so they line up.
